4th place: Salado Games 11/12/2011

I had some of my worst throws of the year, but it was still good enough for 4th. Doing games on back to back weekends proved to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated.

I'll continue on with my 3 on - 1 off schedule, but with far fewere rest days since there are no more events for the year.

I didn't recognize you!

That's how a friend of mine greeted me on Tuesday night at the gym.  I think I look the same and have a further ahead of me than behind, but that comment from a friend at the gym (whom I haven't seen in about 2 months) reminds me that I'm my own worst critic, with one or two exceptions. I'm still hovering between 205 and 208 and need to hit 195 ASAP for Highland Games on 11/07, but I'm every bit as strong as I was in 2011 weighing 235 pounds.  My deadlift is up to 475, my squat up to 385, and my overhead press up to 180.  I haven't maxed on bench press in a long time, so I have no idea where that's at.  I'm stronger, leaner, and lighter. I just hope I can turn this strength into performance on the field.  I've been doing a ton of cleans and snatch grip high pulls to work on my explosiveness, but I have been more worried about making weight than sport-specificity of my training.  I don't expect it to come together for a peak till San Antonio i...

14 SEP: 3 workouts in one day!

Sunday was incredible. We had great temperatures and low humidity, so I was eager to do as much as possible. Noon-ish workout: Front squats: 115 x 2 x 15 Overhead press: 105 x 2 x 15 Pullup: bodyweight x 2 x 6 Bent Row: 95 x 2 x 15 Swiss ball crunch: 20, 10 2:30 - 4:00: Hiking for 4-5 miles through some moderately difficult terrain. The hike was nice. We broke a good sweat and kept the pace very brisk. 11:20 PM: Indoor soccer HOLY COW!!!! This is like running 20 yard sprints non stop and in every conceivable direction for an hour. INCREDIBLE!! We had enough players for subs, but I still got a lot of time on the field.

19 OCT: 10mile PM ride

Well, my wife and I have instituted a new "date night" strategy. I have my kids 50% of the time, so she and I are on our own every Monday and Tuesday night. The rest of the week is devoted to taking the kids to Religious Ed, BMX practice, and weekend races. So making the most of Monday and Tuesday evening is critical for us, especially saince we've been married less than a year, and she has no kids of her own. Back story aside.... Tuesday night was my wife's first 'at bat' for date night. She decided we'd ride our bikes to a local farmer's market, which is about 5 miles away. We were going at a good pace, and every so often she'd pass me and laugh a little. I didn't think we were competing, but who am I to refuse a challenge.
